Maryland District Court - MD Criminal Law
Both the District Court and the Circuit Court have concurrent jurisdiction in civil claims above $5,000 but below $30,000. In certain criminal cases, the Maryland District Court and the Circuit Court have concurrent jurisdiction. The criminal cases include misdemeanors and felonies with penalties of up to three years or a fine of $2,500.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland is composed of district judges and magistrate judges. District judges are appointed under Article III of the Constitution by the President of the United States, with the advice and consent of the United States Senate. District judges are appointed for life, and they can only be removed through the impeachment process.
